Overview
The ocean is a special place to people of all ages, both young and old. We here at Rhode Island Surfrider know the importance of preserving the oceans, waves and beaches today, so that tomorrow’s generation can enjoy all the sea has to offer. One way of doing so, is to instill responsibility within today’s youth and to educate them about the watershed process. Knowledge is power, and by serving as ocean environmentalists, Surfriders have the opportunity to pass their coastal knowledge on to future generations.
Through the Respect the Beach program, students have the opportunity to learn about coastal watershed processes, shoreline ecology and coastal stewardship. The program uses a variety of learning formats, from lectures to handouts to videos, all aimed at educating students about the coastal environment.
